Who's the NFL Comeback Player of the Year 2009?
The player named Comeback Player of the Year shows perseverance in overcoming adversity, in the form of not being in the NFL the previous year, a severe injury, or simply poor performance.
There’s an odd number of potential candidates this year, most of them for an odd variety of reasons. The main candidates I can think of are:
Vince Young, QB, Tennessee Titans: Many thought his career as a starter was done after his week 1 injury in 2008, and the psychological breakdown that followed. He’d be cemented as a bust, after a promising start, including winning Rookie of the Year. After getting the starting job after an 0-6 start, his team has gone 7-2, with him having his first 300 yard game and a 3 TD game and 6 games with a 90+ QB rating. He was helped plenty by the emergence of Chris Johnson, but that does not entirely diminish the comeback season he’s having.
Tom Brady, QB, New England Patriots: Many thought this reward was reserved for him as soon as he got injured in week 1 of last season, but he has had an oddly quiet year for a former MVP. However, he still has somewhat impressive numbers this year, over 90 QB rating over the year (unlike Young who only did it in some games), throwing "only" 29 touchdown passes, and leading his team to a AFC East title. It’s no 50 touchdown season, but most teams would be happy with that.
Brett Favre, QB, Minnasota Vikings: Man, this guy is easy to hate. The last thing you want is him to get another award over more deserving canidates, right? Well… he did have that torn bicep that limited him down the stretch, which also built up the mentality of the the unfortunate team who picks him up next year is going to have him collapse in December. And while the Vikings as a team have not gone undefeated in December, it’s far from Favre’s fault alone, as he’s yet to put up terrible numbers on the year, his "worst" game being the two touchdown two interception game against Arizona. With an over 100 QB rating on the year, and a 3+ to 1 TD:INT ratio, Brett’s been having one of his best years this year. Granted, with the help of an awesome defense and running back, but nobody’s taking away Peyton’s MVP for having an awesome offensive line.
Shawne Merriman, OLB, San Diego Chargers: A popular preseason pick, he has not produced much on the actual field. More of a formality saying his name, he’s been sidelined this year by foot and groin injuries, and does not have impressive stats. Not to say he’s just a dead body out there, his name and history seems to demand respect from the opposing offense, giving him double teams, which allows his teammates to get better pressure as well, such as Shaun Phillip’s league leading 7 forced fumbles. But a long shot as best for this award.
Of course, nobody would be a bigger long shot then..
Michael Vick, QB, Philadelphia Eagles: Nobody in the league has gone through more adversity to return to the NFL. Granted, this adversity was pretty much all self caused, and the kind that many people will never forgive him for. Not to mention even before going to jail, he had a lot of critics, saying he could never really pass the ball well, he was all gimmick, no QB. Putting aside how you personally feel about is crimes, he’s come back from two years out of the league, is learning a new system and a new role, and has gotten better over the season to become a legit weapon. We’ve heard of goal line running backs, but a goal line quarterback? However, he only has a few snaps a game, and has taken a while to really come on in this role. He’s mainly on this list for the massive adversity then his improved performance. Not to mention, the reaction to him getting the Ed Hunt courage award showed that most people do not feel he’s earned the right to collect any accolades yet. This one’s going to make people rant and rave. Isn’t arguing fun?
Who do you think is most deserving of the Comeback Player of the Year award? Someone on this list, or someone unmentioned?
Gaaah, forgot about Benson. He’d qualify for sure, Drew Brees (At the time of the Chargers) got it in 2004, when before hand he just wasn’t very good.
While I agree with your opinions on Vince Young, if it were up to me I’d give it to Cedric Benson.

Help with metal allergy's & piercings please?
I am allergic to a metal called Nickel and a few other ones found in cheap jewelry & belts (Usually found in Wal-Mart). I want to get a lip piercing or a nose piercing but my mom won’t let me because she firmly believes that I’d just break out in a rash like I usually do when I wear my studded belt or cheap necklace, even if I could get a pure silver or gold piercing since I do not break out with these types of metal. So. I was wondering if all tattoo/piercing parlors ONLY carry hypo-allergenic jewelry for piercings (My friend who is getting hip piercings told me this.). But if they don’t, where can I find hypo-allergenic jewelry shop (or a tattoo parlor) located in the Tri-Cities Washington area or a web site to order it from if I must. I really want to get a piercing but lucky me I’m allergic to most things metal, please help me out!
Call the parlor and ask what they carry. Not sure about the Tri-Cities which is near where I grew up and I recall as being pretty remote, but a lot of places carry filament piercing jewelry and stuff that’s plastic, niobium or other non-reactive materials. You’re probably better off with the nose piercing than the lip in terms of infection and bad reaction. The nose is cartilage that doesn’t tend to bleed or anything. the lip is thicker, has an active blood supply and is in constant contact with germy saliva. But, a good piercer will go over all your options with you.
Cali | Feb 01, 2010
Well, I’m allergic to practically all metal earrings so I use gold earrings or I paint fingernail polish on the part that goes into your ear so that I won’t break out. If you get a piercing with gold rings, you won’t break out.
dancer4ever! | Feb 01, 2010
All tattoo shops do care some sort of nickel free jewelry for their customers with sensitive skin. Mention this beforehand and they will pierce you with a higher quality (as in, nickle-free) metal (although, it may cost a little bit more).

Should Man City sack Mancini after ANOTHER defeat…?
He’s lost more games at City this season than Hughes did…
No, they will let him manage for the rest of the season. Mancini is the high profile manager that the Sheik wanted. It will be another year before his team really gels.
Drew L | Feb 06, 2010
why?
Best # 10 | Feb 06, 2010
Frankly, I never did understand why Mancini was brought in to replace Hughes. If Hughes was going to be sacked, why bring in a someone of the same calibre. There was nothing to suggest Mancini would have been a better manager.
He won his first title with Inter on default. The second when Juventus was already relegated and Milan starting with a 15 point deficit. The third when Milan and Juventus were still rebuilding. Even then, Inter still sacked him. So, how was Mancini a better choice then Hughes?
The Man City bosses really screwed it up. They can’t afford to sack him now. Well, then can.. right. I say, bring Hughes back.

IMDB rating: 7.10 Plot: John Marion Stryker is the ultimate Marine, a tough rifle squad leader who in 1943 is assigned a squad of new recruits saddled with three veterans and an old enemy of Stryker’s from previous duties in the Far East. One recruit in particlar is a source of friction with Stryker, Peter Conway, whose father was Stryker’s CO at Guadalcanal and who felt his son was too soft and cowardly to be a Marine. The squad grows more and more resentful at Stryker’s increasingly brutal training regimen and his lack of sympathy for the varied personal problems of the recruits, but his determination to mold them into fighting men helps save their lives when the squad is landed at Tarawa in November 1943 and Stryker risks his life to blow up a Japanese bunker that has slaughtered Marines trapped at a log wall. The now battle-tested squad becomes more closely-knit and Stryker’s relationship with the men warms as the squad eventually finds itself in the bloodiest island battle of the war, at Iwo Jima. |

Why do marines remove the helmet chinstrap?
In the 1949 classic, ‘the Sands of Iwo Jima’ as marines descend from the ship onto the landing craft sergeant Styker, played by John Wayne instructs one of his marines to unbuckle his chinstrap. The next frame shows scores of marines all with their helmets unstrapped.
Why did Stryker gesture to his marine to unfasten the chinstrap on his helmet?
Could it be that a fastened helmet could be an impediment if the marine were to fall in the water, as the helmet could fill with water?
thanks
During World War II and later, many soldiers wore the webbing chinstraps unfastened or looped around the back of the helmet and clipped together. This practice arose for two reasons: First, because hand-to-hand combat was anticipated, and an enemy could be expected to attack from behind, reach over the helmet, grab its visor, and pull. If the chinstrap were worn, the head would be snapped back, causing the victim to lose balance, and leave the throat and stomach exposed to a knife thrust. Secondly, many men incorrectly believed that a nearby exploding bomb or artillery shell could cause the chinstrap to snap their neck when the helmet was caught in its concussive force, although a replacement buckle, the T-1 pressure-release buckle, was manufactured which allowed the chinstrap to become automatically unclipped should this occur. In place of the chinstrap, the nape strap inside the liner was counted on to provide sufficient contact to keep the helmet from easily falling off the wearer’s head
Copied from Wiki.
Technically we were supposed to wear them.

because if you got hit on the helmet with the chinstrap on, it could break your neck, if the chinstrap is off, it would just knock the helmet off

it looks cooler unbuckled that’s the only reason.

mlbjock_58 | Mar 09, 2008
First off it was in the script. Second it would take a larger caliber round than small arms fire to actually snap a neck. Third, it is unauthorized to wear the K-Pod or ballistics helmet with out the chinstrap off. With that being said, with all the movement from one cover to another you risk the possibility of the helmet to fall off and then you are guaranteed to take a kill shot to the head.

if their is an expolsion near by and your chin strap is fastened it could blow off and break your neck so to keep your head on and not break your neck from the bomb or expolsic=ve devise undo always the chin stap….that is the answer.sempir fi

IMDB rating: 8.40 Plot: Set in the early 20th century, the film follows the rise to power of Daniel Plainview — a charismatic and ruthless oil prospector, driven to succeed by his intense hatred of others and psychological need to see any and all competitors fail. When he learns of oil-rich land in California that can be bought cheaply, he moves his operation there and begins manipulating and exploiting the local landowners into selling him their property. Using his young adopted son H.W. to project the image of a caring family man, Plainview gains the cooperation of almost all the locals with lofty promises to build schools and cultivate the land to make their community flourish. If God is all powerful, why did he have to send his son?
Do Christians believe that he was not powerful enough to forgive the world’s sins without the blood of Christ? By definition God has all power & therefore he could forgive us for sins without having to sacrifice his only son… to himself. This also raises the question: What happened to people who died before Christ? Were they in a state of limbo? If so, I would much prefer it that way then having the population of the earth divided into either heaven or hell. Even the most brutal of dictators wouldn’t condemn their worst enemies to this place of eternal damnation.
It is only stupid story by the top story tellers in the universe , man

It is an idiotic idea and rejected by anyone who actually thinks about it.
We would institutionalize anyone who killed their child or allowed them to be killed, just so they could forgive their neighbor down the street.
Jesus dying on the cross for the sins of mankind makes no more sense than tossing virgins into volcanoes to bring the rains and a bountiful harvest.

God is all powerful, without a doubt. It is not for us to question the method He chose to save us. The shedding of blood was His chosen means of sacrifice - throughout history. The shedding of Christ’s blood covers our iniquities and makes us clean before Him. In His mercy and goodness, he sent His own Son to be a sacrifice for our sins. He loves you greatly and desires communion with you. Peace.

Those before Jesus, needed to believe in the promise of the coming of the Messiah, to be saved. JESUS is the Messiah!
The Old Testament showed that blood must be shed for sins. But not just any blood. Those Old Testament sacrifices didn’t pay for ANY sins. Those were temporary sacrifices, pointing to the REAL sacrifice, which is JESUS.
Hebrews 9:22 "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission."
We are all sinners. Only JESUS is acceptable PAYMENT for our sins. All the good deeds in the world won’t pay for even ONE of our sins. All the "living a moral life" won’t pay for even one of our sins.
Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead. That is why Jesus had to die on the cross, because there is no other way for us to be saved. You must believe in Jesus alone for salvation, to be saved. That simple.
Either Jesus already paid for a person’s sins, or that person will pay for their sins in eternal torment in hell. That is the choice before everyone.
The truth about Jesus is that the only way to be saved and to get into heaven and avoid being sent to eternal hell, is by believing in Jesus for salvation, believing in faith alone that Jesus, who is God, died on the cross for all our sins as FULL PAYMENT for all our sins, and then Jesus rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:1-4). Believe in Jesus alone for salvation, and you will be in heaven, no matter what!
Jesus is God, and Jesus loves you so very much!
And the Trinity is true!
Salvation is a FREE GIFT that happens in a split second when you believe in Jesus to save you! It is impossible to lose or "leave" salvation (John 6:39-40, John 10:28, 1 John 5:13).
Please pray now: "Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross to pay for my sins and that You rose from the dead, and I thank You for eternal life!" You will be in heaven with Him forever when you die!
The ONLY way to get into heaven, is by believing in Jesus alone for salvation (John 14:6, Acts 4:12, John 3:16)
David | Feb 05, 2010
They were saved by faith in God, jehovah and his promise of a Messiah who will have paid for all their sins before the judgement of ALL EVIL.
The only currency that could pay for all the sins of men was God’s very blood!
Think of it as God the Judge in court who loved the guilty and cannot violate his own laws, yet needs to condemns the devil and his evil.

Sin needed a perfect atonement. God can not let a sinner into heaven, so the sins must be atoned for. It all comes back to the Just nature of God. "Even the most brutal dictators" are not God, and do not have a divine moral standard. Why would sinners deserve eternal paradise?
Chocolateface | Feb 05, 2010
Because God is perfect, his justice is also perfect. God requires soul for soul. Adam lost a perfect soul plunging man into sin and imperfection so that every descendant of Adam was imperfect and had sinned. Only Jesus Christ, the Son of God who was perfect, could give his life as a ransom to buy back Adam’s lost perfect life bringing forgiveness. All who have died and will die that are in God’s memory, are waiting for the resurrection.

Sessha | Feb 05, 2010
the more i have understood the theology of the Godhead vs the Trinity doctrines. the more i realize that God shares His Almighty Power.
that the Plurality of the sons of God define the Godhead to be universal, but to us there is One God and one Lord and the Holy Ghost.
to conclude that God is NOT all powerful is an error of interpretation.
to say that God the Father HORDES all power unto himself is also an error in conclusion.
to Say that Jesus Had to learn to create and then had to learn by the things he suffered shows that He himself is powerful and can be called all mighty but is not the FAther at the same time.
Jesus was not given the throne over the earth till he overcam all things as rev 3:21 and 21:7 seem to imply. i think its conclusive that Jesus is a different, individual Personage in the Godhead that was ordained to be a god which The FAther shares with all His sons of God by "merit".

How to change my relationship with my mother?
Okay, I’ll start with this:
5 years ago my father left the family to be with another woman, so I can understand why my mom hates my dad. And for some time I did too. I felt hurt and bothered and my mom and I became very close and even friends because we had the same views, but now that I’m older, I’m starting to see why my dad left. My mom is a good person, I know she is, but she is very very VERY controlling. When I was younger I used to do exactly what she said because I was you know, a kid and never thought that things could be different. But then, I began to notice things were starting to change around the age of 14. She began to really push her views on me and make me do multiple chores at once.
Example: I would be doing the laundry and then she would make me wash the dishes while still doing the laundry. And before I can get to the dishes she begins to freak out on why I haven’t done them yet.
And I, again, never really thought about it until I was 16. I began to see my father more often, and I’ve always had a great bond with him ever since I was little. And now that it had been years since the divorce, I started connecting with him again and found out that his girl friend is a really nice person. So I’d like to say that our relationship is healed and out of all my siblings, my personality is almost exactly like my fathers. So after staying the summer with him, things really began to shift in my house. My mom started to compare everything to the divorce. If I didn’t get to the chores fast enough she would say "Well your father left me so I have do all this work by myself!" And "Your father isn’t here to help me!" And I would think to my self that the divorce has nothing to do with the fact that I forgot to do the dishes.
She also began to ask questions when ever my dad called me. My conversations with my dad usually revolve around me, school, friends, and nothing about my mom. My dad and my mom don’t get along and I can understand that my dad really doesn’t want my mom in his life, so we don’t talk about her, but she thinks we do. She believes that when ever we talk we are talking behind her back! And we are not!
And now, just this year, she has began to take her controlling to a whole other level. She has now admitted to my face that my older brother is her favorite child, and even when he is home (since he moved back temporarily) she makes me do ALL the chores while my brother sits on his butt watching tv! Its not fair, so I tried to tell her and she begins to go off on me and again, bring my father into the picture.
Then she began to get on my case for not doing anything after school (i.e. sports, clubs, etc) so I decided to join basketball cheer leading with my friend. But once that started she began to get all hissy with me when every time I got home from practice and why I didn’t do my chores.Cheer leading takes up a lot of my time! Practice starts at 3:30 to 5:30 every other day and in Between those are games that last anywhere from 4:30 and last to 9:00pm! In between those times I have to squeeze in homework and studying and others!
She also complains about me not making dinner, so one day I decided to be nice and make a whole dinner with out her asking me to and do all the dishes before and after wards! Not only did she not thank me at ALL, but she refused to eat my noodles and freaked out when I forgot to wash one cup! ONE!
For over a year now I have thought about living with my dad. And now, its gotten to the point that the only reason I’m staying with my mom is because I currently have very good friends, and not because pf my mom. I can say with out hesitation that I have a growing animosity towards my mom, and I hate that because she is my mom and I would like to change our relationship to make things better! Please help!
